Attention Thursday morning camera and lighting class
I'm sorry to say that I won't be joining you for class this morning.
Sunil is next door in room 619 and he'll be taking role and keeping track of you guys and gals.
He's doing me a big favor here so do be nice to him.
Be sure to turn in your homework (the max file and a couple jpeg renders of your lit scene) in a folder named as follows:
yourlastname_goboshadows
Once you've done that I want you to open up the 3DS Max help file and search for the following topics:
guidelines for lighting
choosing colors for realism
placing lights and cameras
and finally check out:
photometric lights
in particular know the difference between
-point lights
-linear lights
-area lights
Know how to set them up and how they differ from the standard lights we've been using up to this point.
Your homework for next week will be to light the room you modeled for last weeks assignment using photometric lights.
But wait there's more!
I should also be able to tell at a glance approximately what time of day it is outside of that room.
And yes you can have artificial light sources turned on in the room if it's dark outside.
The choice of time of day is completely up to you.
Help each other out with this stuff and try to keep the chaos and outrage to a minimum.
Rest assured that I'm somewhere uber-important where I'm urgently needed, otherwise I'd be there with all of you.
I will be back in the afternoon in room 619 so if there are any major questions or concerns you can find me there.
Otherwise e-mail me with questions.
See you next Thursday.
Syllabi are finally up...
All of the syllabi are available now in the student section.
Sorry that took a little while this quarter.
I'm very busy learning Maya 7 and continuing my education in Director MX and it's scripting language Lingo.
Oh yeah, and I'm working on a humble little graphic novel.
There. I said it.
More as it develops.
