Go Organic!
Speaking of kids... You really should be feeding yours organic foods and beverages.

Don't believe me? Think I'm being an alarmist?

I was like you once... So I'll just tell you to read this article.

Scary Article

The article doesn't really say much about the effects of organophosphorus pesticides but do you really want to feed your kid anything with the word organophosphorus in it?

The big fear is that these chemicals can build up in the body and have adverse effects on a child's developing nervous system. If you'd like to learn more about them check out this article...

Another Scary Article

Sorry to get all preachy... But this stuff scares the crap out of me. They told us the food was safe dammit!

And this is a BLOG afterall... It's where I share what's currently on my mind with you the anonymous internet public.

If this post annoys you, simply remember that there's a very good chance that my next post will be about King Kong or the next Half Life 2 expansion.

Oh and by the way, I swear that Whole Foods Market didn't pay me a cent for this post...

And neither did Organic Valley...

A whole new person
This is Arabella.
She's my great niece.

She was born last Saturday at 11:53 p.m.
She weighs 8 pounds 5 ounces and she's 21 inches long.

We're very pleased to meet her!
My fall schedule and a few more links...
The student section is now up and running. My schedule for next semester is available there. I also added some more of my favorites to the links section.

Those of you who do the HTML thing will notice that I've started using tables in the student section. Eventually all of the sections will feature tables, especially the links section.

Sorry I haven't added more artwork. I'll try to do that tomorrow or Monday.

Now Powered by Blogger!
Thanks to some tutelage from my comrade at Plasticmarlin.com my site is now powered by Blogger!

This is much better than typing my posts in notepad...

On the left you'll see a photo of my first woodworking project. It's an entertainment stand that I designed and built (with a great deal of help from my Father-in-law and my wife... Thank you both!) out of birch furniture-grade plywood. It's 6 feet wide, 2 feet high and 2 feet deep. Right now I'm in the process of puttying and sanding it. Once that's done, I'll apply edging tape and stain it to match the rest of my furniture.

I decided to build my own because I couldn't find a stand for sale anywhere that A.) was actually made out of wood B.) was big enough to hold all of my A/V equipment C.) matched the color of my living room furniture and D.) wasn't ridiculously expensive.

Seriously, a good entertainment stand (that's made out of real wood and comes from an actual furniture store) would've cost more than everything I was going to be setting on it.

Believe me, if you're capable, build your own. You'll save hundreds of dollars.
A small update...
Today I've updated the Links and WIP sections.
The WIP section now features 2 images of 3D models I'm currently working on. Keep an eye out for more images of ongoing projects to show up very soon.

Later today I'm going to try and post my schedule for next semester as well as some syllabi for upcoming fall classes in the Student Docs section.
Students please note that any and all syllabi posted before the start of the quarter (or at any point really) are subject to change due to holidays, school events, etc.
Also, please note that I will be unable to respond to questions regarding final grades for the summer quarter until Tuesday the 27th of next week.

This HTML stuff isn't so tough after all.
Testing...
Welcome to the new Jeff Styers.com!

This version of my website isn't very impressive because I've decided to write the code myself.
I'm not using a WYSIWYG editor because I've decided that it's high time I learn HTML.
Feel free to check out my source code and offer any helpful hints or tips to improve the site.

The sections listed on the left will become available as I complete them.
Check back later this week for more progress.
