Thanks to some tutelage from my comrade at Plasticmarlin.com my site is now powered by Blogger!
This is much better than typing my posts in notepad...
On the left you'll see a photo of my first woodworking project. It's an entertainment stand that I designed and built (with a great deal of help from my Father-in-law and my wife... Thank you both!) out of birch furniture-grade plywood. It's 6 feet wide, 2 feet high and 2 feet deep. Right now I'm in the process of puttying and sanding it. Once that's done, I'll apply edging tape and stain it to match the rest of my furniture.
I decided to build my own because I couldn't find a stand for sale anywhere that A.) was actually made out of wood B.) was big enough to hold all of my A/V equipment C.) matched the color of my living room furniture and D.) wasn't ridiculously expensive.
Seriously, a good entertainment stand (that's made out of real wood and comes from an actual furniture store) would've cost more than everything I was going to be setting on it.
Believe me, if you're capable, build your own. You'll save hundreds of dollars.
